As a business owner, you may think that you should work, work, work all the time! But remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! Plus, actually giving yourself time during the day to let your mind wander has been shown to help facilitate creative, out of the box thinking. So let the distractions begin! Here are a few of our favorite sites to lose a few hours on.
I’ve personally wasted days of my time on this site. It’s just so addicting! – “Stumble Upon helps you easily discover new and interesting stuff on the Web. Tell them what you like, and they’ll introduce you to random amazing web pages, videos, photos and more that you wouldn’t have found on your own. As you stumble through these web pages, you can tell them whether you Like or Dislike their recommendations so they can show you more of what’s best for you. They’ll show you web pages based on that feedback as well as what similar Stumblers and the people you follow have Liked or Disliked.”
“Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.”
No joke: over 20 hours of footage is uploaded every freaking minute. This means you will never ever run out of things to watch. Sports, movie trailers, comedy shows, music videos, news commentators, YouTube has it all, and a seemingly infinite amount of it. Plus it shows you videos that are related the video you are currently watching right on the side bar, so you pretty much can go forever on one subject you are interested without even blinking an eye.
“Addicting Games is the largest online games site in the US. They reach over 10 million unique users every month (comScore). They are trailblazers in the casual game territory, developing and distributing innovative, irreverent, addictive online games. They launch more than a dozen new games every week, and present games from hundreds of independent developers, spread around the globe.” Basically you can never run out of both mindless fun.
If you wasted time reading newspapers back when you got one every morning at your front door, they you are bound to get infinitely more distracted by the 1000s of online newspapers and publications that are available to you online. My personal favorites are CNN, the NY times, Tech Crunch, and Gawker. Whatever news you’re interested in, there are a million articles written about it. Find a few sites you love, and you’ll never be wanting for any newsworthy entertainment.
