New York Golf Center’s Custom Fitting Service Makes for a Happier Swing
How’s your golf swing? Ohh, sore subject? You’re not alone. The golf world has exploded in more-mainstream popularity over the past two decades, and with it, a boom in the entire cottage-industry of professionals helping golfers improve their game.
I’m not ashamed to admit that my most associated memories with the sport are occasionally watching select moments from major tour-events on television…and maybe those choice scenes in Caddyshack.
I have a lot to learn about the service-sector of this world, which is why I really enjoyed speaking with Collin Slattery, Web Sales and Marketing Director for the New York Golf Center.
Collin came across Setster and subsequently setup a Custom Fitting Option, to provide clients “the most comprehensive fitting options in the Industry coupled with Tour caliber build, repair and customization services.”
Tell us a little bit about New York Golf Center, and your role within the company.
We’re a golf retailer with both brick and mortar locations as well as an eCommerce website. In addition to stock club sales, we have a nationally-renowned custom services department that offers customers the same level of customization that touring golf professionals receive. I manage the web department which includes all the web-based marketing efforts.
Was it golf, web-stuff, or both that piqued your interest in this role?
I have been a huge fan of golf since childhood, and I have a long history of managing websites, and web-based marketing endeavors. Working for a company that allowed me to combine both passions seemed like a great choice!
What is the ‘need’ or ‘void’ you are trying to fill through the service you are providing?
We provide a superior customer service experience compared to the large golf retailers whose salespeople are not particularly knowledgeable about golf equipment. Our salespeople are typically passionate, sub-5 handicap golfers themselves. Our custom department is one of the top ranked in the nation with our custom shop director being featured regularly in national golf publications. We can do anything but play your ball for you.
How did you find Setster? What attracted you to it?
We were launching our new website, and we asked our web developer to find us appointment booking software that would support multiple locations and allow customers to book themselves. We were presented with a number of different options, but most were built for very large enterprises with price points to match. Setster was the only one that had the features we were looking for at a price point we could justify.
How does Setster help your business?
We wanted to allow our customers to book custom fittings through our website, and keep the fitting schedule for multiple locations together in one place. We also wanted the option to have customers pay in advance to avoid issues with people booking an appointment and then being a no-show. It also lets us have multiple fitters at multiple locations and gives us the opportunity to expand without difficulty.
Where do you hope NYC Golf Center finds itself a year from now?
We’re hoping to continue our expansion. In an age where sterile eCommerce shopping and big-box stores are becoming the norm, we have found that knowledgeable and helpful staff that provide exceptional customer service really resonates with people. We opened a new retail location in the heart of Midtown this past spring, and our custom shop continues to be recognized as one of the very best in the nation!
